February 2025 Product Highlights: Enhancing Investigations Across Blockchains

This month, we’re introducing major updates that enhance blockchain intelligence, investigative efficiency, and user experience across TRM’s platform. From expanded blockchain coverage and advanced clustering techniques to more powerful custom entities and improved tracing tools, these updates are designed to help investigators uncover insights faster and with greater confidence.

New blockchain support: Sonic, Unichain, Aptos, and TON

We’ve expanded our blockchain intelligence coverage with support for Sonic, Unichain, Aptos, and The Open Network (TON). Investigators can now trace transactions, analyze activity, and conduct cross-chain analysis across these networks, gaining deeper visibility into blockchain ecosystems.

Our integration with TON extends coverage to this decentralized blockchain, which is closely linked to the Telegram ecosystem.

With these additions, TRM now supports 34 blockchains in TRM Forensics, allowing users to plot addresses, search transactions, and assess counterparty risk. Additionally, TRM Wallet Screening API provides sanctions coverage across 78 blockchains, ensuring broad visibility into potential risk exposure.

Ethereum Name Service support

TRM now includes enhanced support for Ethereum Name Service (ENS), making it easier to identify and analyze blockchain identities. This capability enables compliance teams and investigators to:

  • Track wallet activity across ENS domains
  • Map relationships between ENS names and off-chain information, like social media accounts and email addresses
  • Identify patterns of behavior across different ENS identities

With these capabilities, investigators can better trace real-world connections, gather intelligence, and link an address to other known activities or entities.

Next/Previous UTXO transaction tracing

TRM's advanced UTXO tracing mode streamlines cryptocurrency investigations by consolidating critical transaction and address properties directly within the graph visualization. This mode displays address and transaction properties, enabling investigators to quickly identify relationships between addresses without relying on external block explorers. Investigators can trace funds through specific inputs and outputs, follow transactions forward or backward in the chain with a single click, and identify linked addresses and transactions directly on the graph.

This capability works across multiple UTXO-based cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dash, Cardano, Zcash, and Dogecoin.

New cluster types: Peeling chain & PKH

We’ve introduced two new cluster types to help investigators identify commonly controlled addresses with greater confidence:

  • Peeling chain clustering detects addresses linked by “peeling” patterns, a technique often used in money laundering. This helps track funds as they are systematically broken down and moved.
  • PKH (Public Key Hash) clustering automatically links addresses across blockchains when they share the same public key hash, indicating common ownership with high certainty.

Both features offer glass box attribution, allowing investigators to see exactly which clustering heuristic is being used to group addresses together. This transparency provides greater trust in the data and ensures investigators can make informed decisions based on clear, verifiable logic.

Enhanced custom entities

We’ve made custom entities more powerful, giving investigators greater flexibility in managing and analyzing blockchain activity. With support for larger datasets, improved downloads, and custom entity combos, users can now build and interact with custom entities more effectively.

Investigators can add more addresses and transfers to a single custom entity, making it easier to track large-scale activity. Expanded download capabilities provide quick access to comprehensive address and transaction data for deeper offline analysis. Meanwhile, custom entity combos bring these entities to life in Forensic’s Graph Visualizer, allowing users to connect transfers directly to individual addresses, expand or collapse entity details, and incorporate multiple node types without losing traceability.

These upgrades strengthen our Universal Tracing, enabling investigators to seamlessly analyze blockchain activity at both the entity and address levels—all within the same graph.

Enhanced notes in Graph Visualizer

We've improved the notes functionality in Graph Visualizer to make complex blockchain investigations clearer and more manageable. The enhanced notes system provides greater flexibility and better documentation capabilities.

  • Add notes anywhere on the graph, including on nodes and transfer lines
  • Customize note appearance with different colors
  • Create free-standing notes within your graph
  • Connect notes to multiple graph elements to document relationships

These improvements allow investigators to better document their findings and create clearer narratives of complex blockchain relationships, making it easier to share insights with team members.

New languages in support chat

We've expanded our support chatbot's language capabilities to assist users in their preferred language. The chatbot now supports multiple languages including Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Danish, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai, and Ukrainian.

This enhancement makes it easier for our global users to get help directly within the platform. Users can simply navigate to the help icon in the top right corner and ask questions in any of the supported languages.
